Dear Friends,
The layout of Friday with Friends will be a little different today. I have so much to tell you that it can be confusing, especially to me. I am putting the blurbs under headings so that you can find “that thing you read about” in Friday with Friends.
Minutes and Financial Reports:
Please take time to read the minutes for the Sunday, September 27 Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business and September’s financial reports. There are quite a few things about our church you may want to catch up on or be informed about. They are attached.
Not going to be in the office today or early on Monday
I am going to be at a conference for suicide prevention all day today, so I cannot be in the office. I will be available by text or phone (541-363-6885) and email on Saturday, in church on Sunday, and in the office on Monday after 11 until 2 PM. I will be representing our church at the Klamath Interfaith Coalition on Monday morning.
Game Night tonight
We have been invited to be a part of the community game night that is to be held the second Friday of each month (tonight) from 6-8 PM at Klamath Lutheran Church, 1175 Crescent Ave in Klamath Falls. It will be cards, board games and snacks. This is brought to the area through a coalition of churches in town that include us, Klamath Lutheran and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, our other affirming congregations in Klamath Falls. The game night is LGBTQ friendly. We will be participating in this monthly event on the second Friday of each month from 6-8. All are welcome. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
Richard Rohr’s The Naked Now Book Study questions
This Sunday at 11:00 (after worship) we will be going over three chapters of the Richard Rohr book, The Naked Now, chapters16, 17 and 18. This has been a good book for us with great deep discussions. Please come and join us as we discuss the following questions and listen attentively to each other’s answers and questions that are brought up. As you can tell by the questions, you do not have to read the book to understand the questions. If you have read (or are reading) the book or are just curious, come and let’s discuss these together. There is an extra free copy on the entry table in the church house.
Naked Now Chapters 16-18
- Do you find yourself reaching a love-based life through love first or suffering first? Pg. 122-125
- How has suffering in your life led to greater forgiveness and mercy? Pg. 126
- What pain do you need to transform to avoid passing it on? Pg. 125
- When have you encountered God beyond description? Pg. 130
- How does nonduality help you move beyond confirmation bias? Pg. 131
- How can you be awake without reacting or judging? Pg. 132
- How can you be conscious of a thing without being identified with it? Pg. 137
Rally on October 17
There will be a national No Kings Day rally going on across the USA, and Klamath Falls is participating. There will be a gathering at the old Rite Aid parking lot on the corner of 6th and Washburn on Saturday, October 17 from noon to two. This is an opportunity to wear your KFFC T-shirt if you’d like. (There is a graphic for the T-shirt that you can have made at Trekker Designs downtown at 1415 Main Street. You can purchase a T-shirt there or bring your own and have the design placed on it. It can be used on sweatshirts and hoodies, too.) We are trying to keep our signs for the rally upbeat and encouraging. There is also a theme of “Get Out the Vote” which can be reflected in your signs as well. Make your own sign and bring it, or there will be extra there.
Beading Class with Sue Graves October 25 at 11:00
Sue Graves is leading us on a spiritual journey through the hands-on creation of prayer beads. Many different religions around the world use prayer beads to help ground them while praying. While we have no dogma or doctrine as Quakers, we do want to take every creative opportunity to help deepen our spiritual lives. Sue will have the beads and other necessary tools to help us all design something original and unique for each of us as we think about what it means to connect with Spirit in this sometimes crazy and chaotic world. The experience of making the beads alone will be spiritually grounding. Please join us in this time of spiritual deepening and creation.
Thanksgiving Potluck for the Church November 15 at 11:00
We have so much for which to be thankful. Let’s celebrate our sense of community in our meeting as we enjoy fun, food and fellowship. We will have games and times of light conversation as we commune with one another while remembering how grateful we are for one another. Bring your favorite Thanksgiving dish or just be creative and bring your newest dish to share with others. There is also a signup sheet on the entry table to help add some organization and diversity to what we are bringing.
Trans Day of Remembrance and Friendsgiving for the town November 21, 2PM-5PM
Unfortunately, we live in a world where there is violence towards people who are transgender. These acts of hate are tragic. We will be remembering the lives of transgender people who were murdered in 2025-26 at a 2 PM service at Klamath Lutheran Church on Trans Day of Remembrance, November 21. This will be a short service that is open to the town of Klamath Falls and is a joint venture of Klamath Falls Friends Church, Klamath Falls Lutheran Church, and Klamath Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
At 3 PM we will be gathering for a “Friendsgiving” light meal and fellowship in the fellowship hall of Klamath Lutheran Church. Many people in the LGBTQ community in Klamath Falls do not have supportive families and may have nowhere to celebrate Thanksgiving. We are offering this time of fellowship so that we can provide support and love to those who may be feeling abandoned or shunned. So please join us. This is open and encouraged for both allies as well as members of the LGBTQ community. We will have games to play together and activities that will help us provide a sense of community in our town.
Church Cleaning Days
We will be cleaning the church on October 19 at 9 AM and on November 14 at 9 AM. A signup sheet is on the entry table. We tend to have a lot of fun, and it generally takes less than one hour to completely clean the church.
Circle of Friends
This winter we will be gathering again in a Circle of Friends for some deep listening to one another. This practice helps us build our sense of community. The Ministry and Care Committee is asking you for suggestions for topics or questions. Please let Wendy, Bernie, Joe or I know your ideas.
Updating the Directory
We are working to update the directory again as lots since there have been some additions and changes of address and such. There is a manual copy on the entry table in the church house. Please look for your name and address and other information and make sure I have it right, please. We need to stay connected.
I hope that this information has been useful. Please find ways to plug into what is going on in our church/meeting in ways that reflect things that give you joy and help you deepen your life spiritually. I have attached the announcements for October and November. I hope to see you soon.
Blessings,
Leigh
