Friday with Friends

Dear Friends,

I hope you are enjoying your Fourth of July. I am in sunny Greensboro, NC enjoying a conference called “Faith Working Through Love.” I was also able to visit with my older son in Raleigh, which was so wonderful.

But it’s not hard to miss you all.  So I’m praying you are well.  Let me know how you are doing.

This Wednesday the 9th we will be making food for the Klamath Tribal Transitional Housing Program. Please contact Joe or Kate if you’d like to help with this endeavor.

I have found another book I highly recommend. I do read ones I don’t try to get you to purchase to read. But this one speaks about meetings like ours.  It is called “Before the Resurrection”, and it is written by Emily Provance. It’s available through the FGC (Friends General Conference.) It’s a Quaker book about navigating the waters of change when a meeting has become small in number. It looks at a lot of factors and ways to handle things positively. While I like our intimate number of folks, growth is important. I just think someone will visit our church and fall in love with our genuine and loving people. I believe we are on the verge of growth.  This book would be helpful to read if at all possible before our Circle of Friends meeting on July 13 at 11:00 if any of you can order it.  It is an easy read with short chapters that stay on task.

We have so much to celebrate! Last Saturday, Joe was recorded as a minister at the annual meeting of Sierra Cascades Yearly Meeting.  We will be celebrating this accomplishment for him and for the church on Sunday after meeting for worship.  Please come and join us for a party on July 6 at 11:00.

The following week (July 13) is our Circle of Friends where we will talk about action steps to put to the goals set at our last Circle of Friends into successful works and actions. It is important to hope and dream, but we need actual steps to take in order to make progress.  I hope to see you there. Please pray for a meeting where we feel God’s hand of guidance.

Earlier that morning (July 13, 9:00), we will be talking about James 2.  It is a faith-in-action chapter that many of you would enjoy if you make space in your Sunday routine for Bible Study.

The following week is Peace and Social Concerns at 9:00. There is so much to talk about. We have quite a few projects coming up.  We are still involved in collecting kid-friendly foods for the Interfaith Food Pantry Drive.  We also need more hygiene and cleaning products.  So please drop them by the church on Sunday or Monday from 10-2.

After meeting for worship on July 20 we are in for a treat.  Please bring sugar free foods for a get -together to say “Good-bye” to Sarah and Carl.  Sarah is also going to lead us in dance, so please come prepared to stretch.  It should be great fun, but bitter-sweet.

I have to get back to studying new skills. I hope you enjoy whatever the Fourth has brought to you!

So much love to all of you!

Leigh
