Friday with Friends

Dear Friends,

Sunday was such a fun day.  It was so good to have so many with us worshipping together.  Thank you for showing up!  It was nice to have visitors and some old friends, too.

We have a little problem with our old speaker when the people on zoom speak.  Probably time for an updated speaker.  But I heard from some of you that you could not hear well what was read with ease, so I wanted to resend it to you so that you can have a copy of this.

Sixteenth Century Kabalistic Jewish Teaching of Tikkun Olam

In the beginning of time, when the Divine Holy One sent primordial light into the world, the vessels meant to hold it were too fragile. They shattered, exploding into countless shards, scattering holy sparks across the darkness of our universe.

Those sparks fell everywhere. They are trapped inside darkness, hidden within the mundane, and buried beneath the brokenness of our social order.

Humanity was created for this very reason: to gather up those sparks, to complete the task of Tikkun Olam, healing of the world.

No single person is expected to finish the work, but neither are we free to desist from it. Every time we show up for justice, every time we speak a word of peace, and every time we extend a hand in genuine kindness, we rescue a hidden spark. We lift it up, glue a piece of the world back together, and bring creation closer to the ultimate harmony for which it was made.

Please look at the calendar below and make your commitments about what to attend, please.  We will enjoy your participation, and we hope you will enjoy it as well.

Joe and I will be traveling to Eugene Friends later today to hold a workshop tomorrow on how the SPICES (Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Equality, and Stewardship) apply to us when we are in meeting for worship with attention to business for the SCYMF Fall Gathering.  Your prayers are very much appreciated.

Also, we are having a beading workshop on October 25 at the end of meeting for worship to make individual  prayer beads and to share our prayers, dreams, poems, affirmations, quotes and what makes us anxious with each other.  Sue has asked us to have some prayers or readings we may use when we are using our prayer beads. She can read them anonymously if it feels a little too vulnerable to share aloud.  The beads will be provided as well as other supplies to make the prayer beads.  Please bring scissors if possible.  We look forward to the class and the prayers that are shared as we bead in the manner of Friends, prayerfully and quietly and with reflection.  Sue has supplied the following note that will also go out separately just to clarify.

“As part of the Prayer Beads Workshop on the 25th, I asked attendees to bring a list of meaningful prayers, poems, affirmations, blessings, quotes, etc. to share with the group. It’s occurred to me that sharing such personal words may feel too vulnerable for some ~ whatever you do choose to share I’ll read, anonymously, while we’re creating our prayer beads and print copies of them the week after we meet.

It’s important that everyone feels comfortable and enjoys the creative process!

I’m really looking forward to our time together ~ Sue 📿

P.S.- please bring ✂️ !!”

Lastly, this Saturday is the No Kings Rally.  It will be from noon until 2 PM at the corner of 6th and Washburn in the old Rite Aid parking lot.  Please join as we try to encourage people to get out the vote in our area and our state.  Many programs are depending on us to step up and vote our conscience.

May you see God in all that is around you and feel the Presence deeply as you work for justice and peace.

Blessings to you all,

Leigh
