Dear Friends,
There are beautiful purple flowers opening up on the walkway into the church. There are new people coming through the doors, as well as those coming back who have not been for a while. It feels like we are blossoming. Right now especially, with the way the world is, it is important to have a place to feel like you belong, like these are “your people.” Jesus said that if we came to him, which I think of as coming to love, that he would find a way to give us comfort and rest. Are you tired? Do you ever feel lonely? Think about coming at 10:00 on Sunday morning. Yes, we have plenty of other things to get involved with, but it is important to some to start with the foundations of just coming to worship and enjoying the silence. Does your life have enough worship and silence in it? We are here. Be part of the new beginning that spring represents. Open up and be found near the walkway. It will be a beautiful sight.
This Sunday we have several extracurricular activities. At 9:00 we are starting with Bible Study, We are in the fourth chapter of Philippians, a chapter that reminds us to meditate on what is positive in this world, to seek contentment, and to find our way towards rejoicing and renewal. This will be the final chapter in this book, and we will consider what comes next.
Then the service. This Sunday is focused on remembering our external mothers and developing our internal mothering of God within all of us. Everybody has that of God within them, and in that God within is a God that has attributes and love of a mother, constantly remembering us, always wanting us to be protected and feel a part of the whole, to heal and become better people in this world.
We will conclude with a Mother’s Day Potluck. Maybe you can bring that dish that your mother used to make or one that was your children’s favorite. Bring pictures of your mother and grandmother, and all the people who were your nurturers, as well as pictures of children you raised or nurtured. We will have a good time sharing with one another and talking about happy memories.
This Sunday is also the last Sunday to have the pastor evaluations in. This has been a year that has felt more settled and more fulfilling for us, but what kind of year has it been for you? How have we as pastors impacted your life? The life of the church? Please pick up an evaluation form and fill it out. It should take no more than five minutes to complete, and everyone’s input is important.
Then it is also very important to be at the business meeting on May 25th to discuss the pastors’ contracts and the evaluation results. Your input helps us to grow, to learn and to be better pastors for you and Klamath Falls Friends Church.
I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy this beautiful spring day.
Sincerely and with love,
Leigh
