Friday with Friends

Dear Friends,

There is a great opportunity coming your way through the Sierra Cascades Yearly Meeting that is meeting in Portland on June 27- 29. You are invited to participate in person or through zoom.  The zoom registration is free.  There will be workshops on Friday from 10:30-noon and Saturday from 4-5:30.  Friday morning includes Mikheil Elizbarahvili (Misha) who is the clerk of the Georgia Friends Worship Group in Russia and has been working with conscientious objectors who have deserted the Russian/Ukrainian War; “It Took a Village,” a personal story of coming back from fundamentalist blowback, and the spiritual and mental journey along the way from Jim Miller, who has retired from the Mental Health Field; or Windy Cooler’s excellent workshop on right relationship and public ministry among Quakers.  Saturday afternoon is just as packed with programs you can attend through zoom: a chance to meet the new executive director of Right Sharing of World Resources as she leads a workshop about money and how it shapes our lives; Conscientious Objection and its grounding in nonviolence with Cherice Bock who is working on a book about conscientious objectors from the PNW 20th century; Corporate Reconciliation – on how a group can navigate through an experience of high profile crisis and why some groups thrive. The link for zoom pre-registration is https://forms.gle/smqZcHT4pPYhMH8ZA.  Joe Totlon will be recorded on Saturday morning and this is also available through zoom.  If you have any questions, please call or contact Rachel Hampton at registrar@scymf.org or Meg Rice at gathering@scymf.org.   The theme of the Yearly Meeting Conference is “Centered in Love.”  The guest speaker for both Friday evening and Sunday morning is Matt Boswell, pastor of Camas Friends Church in Camas, Washington.  For more information about Matt please go to mattboswellpnw.com.

Both Joe and I will be attending but would love for you to join us. The actual in-person location is Reedwood Friends Church, 2901 SE Steele St. Portland, OR 97202.

I look forward to this year’s Yearly Meeting and have found the others to be quite inspiring.

Don’ forget that May 25 is meeting for business here at Klamath Falls Friends Church at 11:00.  We as a meeting will be discussing the pastors’ evaluations.  Thank you to all who participated.  There will be a report based on the evaluations and a time for input or questions.

Thank you also to those who participated in the new directory providing updated information for you. It is almost at its culmination and should be available soon.

This has been a wonderful time of getting to know you better.  To that end, in the next couple of weeks you will have a copy of the highlights from the Circle with Friends that took place a few weeks ago on building our community here at Klamath Falls Friends Church.  Thank you for sharing your ideas for making this, your meeting, a better place for you to worship.

Blessings,

Leigh
